Brown, Red, Age or Liver Spot IPL Laser

Select this button stylePrint this page

The advanced laser treatments available at Radin Skin Centre provide a non-invasive way to diminish or eliminate skin discoloration such as brown spots and red spots, making your skin tone clearer and more even. We have the advantage of more than one type of laser in order to offer you a treatment that precisely targets the specific pigment of each spot.

Brown spots are often called hyperpigmentation, age spots, or sun spots. Red spots are either due to acne or vascular irregularities (often called cherry angiomas). If you have spider veins (broken blood vessels / broken capillaries), read more about our vein treatment.

The IPL or Intense Pulsed Light Harmony Advanced Fluorescence Technology Laser is another state-of-the-art device that is excellent for the removal of spider veins, red spots, and brown spots. IPL treatment is also sometimes called photo rejuvenation, Photofacial or Fotofacial.

The Nd: YAG Laser is a device that precisely targets broken capillaries, brown spots, and red spots. It is so accurate that it is often used in eye surgeries. This laser also provides a subtle skin tightening effect that can help you look younger.

How Does Brown or Red Spot Treatment work?

We generally use the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light or Photofacial) Harmony Advanced Fluorescence Technology laser, the Gentlemax Pro, or the Nd:YAG laser for red and brown spot removal. Each of these state-of-the-art lasers offers a slight variation that allows us to provide you with the most thorough spot removal treatment possible.

The light of the laser is highly targeted so that it affects only the spots to be treated and not the surrounding skin. The light penetrates in short pulses that absorb the brown or red pigment of the spots, lightening them over time.

A Typical Brown or Red Spot Laser Treatment

To ensure your comfort, a cool gel is applied to your skin or in the case of IPL, cold air using an advanced Zimmer cooler is used. Some people describe a laser light pulse as similar to the feeling of a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Most people say that the procedure is more comfortable than they expected.

Procedure times vary depending on the number of areas you need to have treated.

Recovering from Brown and Red Spot Treatment

One of the advantages of laser treatment for brown spots and red spots is that you can go right back to your life immediately without any downtime.

There may be some short-term after-effects, however, such as redness, tenderness, and inflammation. In some cases, there is crusting, or you may find that a brown spot becomes darker before it becomes lighter. You can usually cover these symptoms with makeup until they resolve.

Laser treatments make you more susceptible to the sun, so be sure to wear sunscreen when you are outdoors to protect your skin from sunburn and skin cancer.

Results of Brown and Red Spot Treatment

The results of brown and red spot laser treatment are not immediate. You will see gradual improvement over a period of weeks, and you will probably need a series of procedures to diminish or eliminate as many spots as possible. The results are cumulative, showing a slow reduction of discoloration over time. Individual results vary, however.
